For a minor design project, I responded to a brief set by the RAF Museum to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Spitfire’s first flight. The task was to design a low-powered product inspired by the Spitfire’s elliptical wing, suitable for sale in the museum shop. I developed a children’s LED acrylic night lamp, using laser-engraved clear acrylic and USB-powered edge lighting to softly illuminate the Spitfire wing design. The product was designed to be both visually engaging and educational, aimed at children aged 4–10. The project involved user and market research, technical exploration of safe electronics, and the creation of a fully functioning prototype. The final product meets key toy safety and electrical standards, and is suitable for small-scale manufacture.
